A ROYAL GET UP & GO BREAKFAST feedback from 19th MAY
At the historic Marriott Royal Hotel, College Green Bristol
“Just to say thank you for a lovely breakfast this morning, I found my first visit very enjoyable and informative. I Look forward to many more.”
“Thank you once again for this morning at the Bristol Royal Marriott Hotel. As I mentioned to you, what a fabulous venue. The breakfast was a ‘royal’ treat and as usual a fun time.”
Rob kicked off and introduced the morning and explained to the many new faces what the Secretary Network was all about. It was then handed over to Stuart Boots No7 manager for news on their incredible new No7 protect & perfect serum product which included a live demonstration using No7 facial products (Free sample goody bags for everyone too!).
“As always thanks to you too for arranging it as it wouldn’t happen without you.”
The breakfast was a real treat with a massive choice for everyone including a wide range of very healthy options like cereals, yoghurts, smoothies and danish delights. The chef did us all proud featuring such dishes as lightly toasted buns with poached egg, bernaise sauce and green trimmings. Scambled egg mini pies. Filo pastry sausage wraps… all of which wowed us and demonstrated the super Marriott alternatives to bog standard fry ups often served in hotels!
“I just wanted to say thank you for the event I attended at the Marriott this morning. It was my first time and I must say I was impressed!”
Lisa Hale (sales manager) told us about the superb Marriott Royal Hotel and it’s conference facilities available (no less than 22 meeting rooms!) and handed out a Free Day Leisure Pass for everyone to enjoy the refubished spa area. There was also a “Get up & Go” Competition too for A Royal Afternoon Tea for 4 people which includes hand cut sandwiches, freshly baked cakes, tea and a glass of bubbly!!!
My thanks go to Lisa, Neil, Hans and GM John – the Bristol Royal Marriott team for making this a wonderful event to enjoy.

House of Fraser evening event feedback from 17th Feb

Secnet VIP’s and members were enjoying what the superstars often take for granted! Looking round a fantastic store with no other customers – The Cabot Circus House of Fraser store open exclusive for them!

We all met in the Zest bistro in the store (a must to visit). Rob introduced the evening and welcomed all. Jon Day from the PR People explained the benefits of PR, communicating and networking and the fact we all played a part in this. Johanna Bolhoven (House of fraser PR/Marketing manager) welcomed all and told us the history and interesting facts behind this incredible new store. We also heard from the GM Zest about the wow food and beverages available there combined with the fact it can be booked for business functions including: meetings, corp dining and business breakfasts etc.

We then enjoyed a tour of the store. Starting at the ground floor and worked our way up, returning to the Zest once again for canapes and more refreshments.
40 Secnet VIP’s and visitors had the incredible opportunity to browse the whole store whilst it was only open for them.

I was delighted to meet everyone in Exeter at the Thistle Hotel, thanks go to Roger (GM) and Emma (SM) for hosting.
Even though it was the first event and most of us had never met before, I felt that the atmosphere was very freindly and something to build on.
Sally and Jon from CFH (SECNET partner) Jon explained the massive savings to make on postage, print and mailing cost – the fact that they can print your A4 letter, fold it, stuff it in envelopes and stamp it all for only 25p!!!!
SECNET partner, Mike from Silverline Cars told us about his executive travel service for you and the boss, ideal for airport travel and other fixtures. Roger from the Thistle Exeter (SECNET partner) explained the superb improvements and facilities at the Thistle hotel, the roof work now completed and the hotel is now able to be seen again in it’s beauty.

My signed t shirt was a lovely surprise too, thanks designer Alex from fashionmoda (her details are on here too) It’s a shame we never got to see the underpants (sorry knickers) with bespoke names on – better luck next time!
Hope you all enjoyed the whole get SECNET together as much as i did – thanks everyone and well done.
“Hi Rob great event at the Marriott last night! It is lovely to meet up with so many lovely people and have a good time!! The Networking is working really well!!! By the way the t-shirt did suit you nicely!! I see you at the next event Take care Alex”
“Thanks Rob – great nite, food was lovely, missed the talks but promise to be there on time for the next event! Thanks also for introducing Hillary Connet to me and what a gem she is – im so impressed by her but you have to be in the Horticulutural world to know why! Sounds like we will have lots to talk about. My new year resolution is to crack on with our website so here’s hoping! I may even become a VIP! Nicolette”
“Hi All! I had a great time at the Marriott last night! Thank you all for being so welcoming, I have to admit to being a little nervous before doing my presentation (very surprising for those of you who know me for being such a loud chatterbox!) but everyone was very lovely and put me at ease.I hope you found it informative.”
“Rob, good crowd last night at the Marriott, interesting speakers and great food also. Thanks for mentioning docmail and the fact we now have over 1000 people on the system which from a zero start in the autumn is really pleasing – not too many Secnet users though and I’d like to understand why to see if we’re missing something – any feedback would be good or if you want to know more visit www.cfhdocmail.com – we have clients saving hundreds of pounds a week on their mailings, most of them small businesses. Talk soon, see you in Exeter, Jon M”
“Hi Rob, Not sure if I put my comment for Sue in the right place…but I just wanted to mention what a number of people said last night. Sue’s talk managed to be motivational without falling into the trap of being patronising or simplistic (as so many ‘self-help’ talks can be). Thank you Sue, George”

Marriott Hotel College Green Christmas Event FEEDBACK
What a super night! Great fun, food and dancing too!
Thanks go to Lisa and her team at the hotel for their festive hospitality, all those I spoke to afterwards about this event had only very positive things to say about the venue, the staff and using the hotel in the future – well done everyone involved!
The carvery choice of beef, turkey and pork was very festive indeed, we even enjoyed roasters, sausage, stuffing and cranberry sauce to boot!
I also think the disco got it right… it was great to see so many enjoying a dance and letting their hair down, thank you so much for participating on the dance floor, even Rob in his Santa costume joined in and danced.
Thanks also go to the partners that participated as guest speakers – Marie from Select, Steve from Saks Hair and Beauty and Steve and Sarah from Memorandum office supplies.
Memorandum gave us a super “packed” goodie bag along with some very exciting prizes so did the Saks crew and Select. Well done everyone again!
I was delighted to see and welcome some new faces to the SECNET fun… good to meet you and do come to more events in the future, spread the word and tell others.
Lisa at the Marriott will welocme your feedback, I hope she got the point over to you that the hotel is not out of reach, the hotel is highly competitive in pricing and facilities for bookings and “What a super venue” to impress your clients and staff – Party nights places available!
Click here for more Nov 27th feedback:
Lastly… those of you that didn’t show up but booked in for this, didn’t email apology or please excuse me, not only cost us money, but mucked up places for all the others that wanted to come, but were unable due to the limited places available.
Please do consider and respect that we are trying to do.

SECNET Evening at Leigh Court was a fun and very enjoyable event with lots to see and hear about.

Mark from Guy Fawkes told us of the makeovers & demos taking place after the food is served. Jon Day from the PR people gave us a very quick but informative talk on the forthcoming Run for the future 2008 family fun run to help raise funds for prostate cancer care and research. See -www.runforthefuture.co.uk SECNET’S Founder Rob rounded things off with some of his usual fun and nonsense as well as some serious thank you’s and SECNETVIP news. We all went off for a gourmet treat and a glass (or two) of quality wine in the lovely “Salon”. Beauty demos, makeovers and networking carried on for over an hour or more. SECNET BBQ at the Avon Gorge Hotel- Tuesday August 12th 2008

Although the weather meant that the event had to be held indoors as the Terrace that has such splendid views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Gorge, was out of bounds, over 100 secretaries from across the area enjoyed a fabulous evening on Tuesday August 12th courtesy of the Avon Gorge Hotel.
Steve Durrant and his staff from Saks Hair & Beauty explained the benefits of the new semi permanent hair removal system IPL that they are now licensed to offer.

Hannah Stapley-Parker of PTP Consulting enjoyed a mini hair and beauty makeover.
Jon Marsh of CFH Document Management explained the new docmail system that they provide saving small as well as larger businesses considerably amounts of money on any mailing from a single letter to a multi million mailing.

New SECNET VIPs, Lorraine Banks, Sarah Cole, Jane Highfield, Valerie Hinchcliffe and Elaine Jay were presented with their Membership Certificates and welcome ‘goodie’ packs and Official SECNET Partners Avon Gorge Hotel, CFH Documentation and La Creme were also presented with their certificates.

Just wanted to drop you a note to say Thank You for a most enjoyable evening on Tuesday. It was a shame about the weather, but that didn’t matter, it’s the people that make it.
I had a really good evening, shared a table with some lovely people – we had such fun and will definitely meet up again. The food was good, and the puddings very generous to the dozen or so of us left at the end (and that’s because we were talking too much)................and, I won the dinner for two! Thank you once again. Hilary

Many thanks for coming over to the Avon Gorge Hotel on Tuesday, sorry that we had to have the “indoor” BBQ, but hopefully it gave you all a flavour of what the hotel has to offer.
I hope that you all collected a pack on the hotel when you left, which would have included the information on the Conference Incentive for the hotel (a pdf copy is attached, and do feel free to forward over to any of your colleagues who were unable to attend).
One thing I forgot to mention was, with regards to Christmas Party Nights. For all bookings confirmed before 31st August 2008, we are offering a 10% discount off the price).
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information on the hotel, or if we can assist with any event or enquiry you may have.

SECNETS’s Harry and Rob were delighted to meet, greet and talk to a thousand PA’s and Secretaries from all over the United Kingdom at the fantastic Times Creme show in London.

Harry pictured here at our Secretary Network stand 501
Many thanks to all the visitors to our stand, we enjoyed a superb position as the very first exhibit on the left as you enter the show. We also enjoyed hearing about your various roles, responsibilities and interests – many of our visitors participated in our SECNET survey and enter the competition to win the large “Im in charge” teddy bear.

This picture shows the lower floor section near closing time!
There was about two hundred exhibitors at the show ranging from hotels and venues to fashion and office supplies. There were free offers, giveaways, goodie bags, cakes, canapes and even a drop of bubbly to enjoy! Many visitors told us that they had no idea that there was so much to see and do.

The fashion shows from Planet were very well attended starting at 11.30am and 2.30pm daily and so were the information seminars during the show, all featuring highly relevent topics like “PA the project manager”, “PA and the boss”, “Communication skills”, “Minute taking”, “Secrets and Tips” and a host more interesting topics available in the 6 seminar theatres at the event.

Our photo here shows Rob and Sharon at Times Creme.
Sharon Davies has been featured on our website for a while in the “Office News” section with her keep fit and toned at your workplace. She has been working in association with Leitz – the high performing filing and desktop brand (you were all given a Leitz file sample at the Ashton Court Mansion SECNET event recently).

Rob with Anna a SECNET visitor from Clevedon Nr Bristol

Rob with Nicci another SECNET visitor, this time from Devon

Yet another SECNET visitor – Christelle from Clifton Bristol
Watch out for news on other Times Creme events, they are very worthwhile, informative and a Must do for the modern Secretary and PA – wherever you are located!

A splendid view over Bristol’s Historic Harbour was just one of the pleasures enjoyed by secretaries and PAs who attended Lunch with SECNET at the Mercure Brigstow Bristol Hotel on Friday May 30th.

Hotel manager Tim Howes welcomed guests who were then able to sample exciting dishes from the new menu available at the hotel’s Eclipse restaurant.

Mike Corbin, of new SECNET Official Partner, West Consulting gave a fascinating and slightly frightening insight into some of the new HR regulations that businesses will have to cope with in the near future.
Secretaries and PA’s who have any doubts about whether their employers HR systems and procedures are up to date or not , can through SECNET, get a Free ‘health check‘– see home page for details.

On a lighter note Ros Pope of Higher Society showed the group some of the fabulous hats that she hires out and also gave a useful update on acceptable etiquette at Ascot, particularly on Ladies Day in the Royal Enclosure.
Rob McCabe explained further the aims of THE SECRETARY NETWORK and that there will shortly be some SECNET VIP only events and a whole raft of special offers exclusively for SECNET VIPs.

He then presented new VIP members – Sharon Escott and Debra-Marie Duffety with their certificates and ‘goody packs’ as well as presenting SECNET Official Partners Sarah Barber from PTP Consulting and Jo Westlake from Mercure Brigstow Hotel with their certificates.

Finally Jo Westlake described some of the features offered at Mercure Brigstow Hotel and showed some of those attending around the hotel rooms.
‘Another great Secretary Network do’ seemed to be the general consensus ‘When’s the next one?’

The stunning surroundings of Ashton Court Mansions provided the venue for an Evening Extravaganza with SECNET on April 9th.
A welcome drink greeted around 100 secretaries from businesses in and around Bristol, before the more formal part of the evening was held in the spectacular music room.

Alex Manna-Gibbs of Fashion Moda explained the individual fabric printing service she supplies, then Rob McCabe engaged the audience with an interesting talk about how we are perceived, both on the telephone and in a face to face situation and the importance of politeness, cheerfulness and a helpful approach however stressed and under pressure we are.
James Gore Public Relations Manager from Bristol Airport brought guests up to date with the latest developments and new scheduled flights before Lizzie Bartlett of Athena Gowns gave some useful pointers on how to choose the right gown for you when attending a special occasion.
Sharon Flanagan then welcomed guests to Ashton Court Mansion, introduced her team and explained that guided tours were available throughout the evening.
Guests then moved into the bar area and enjoyed a superb buffet supper, listened to the Jazz Band (the theme for Christmas Parties at Ashton Court this year) and networked.
The reaction from guests, speakers and the venue prove conclusively that this was the most successful SECNET event yet. –Get involved in the next one!!
“I just wanted say how much we all enjoyed Wednesday evening – it was the best event of its kind that we’ve done so far.
You were fantastic – thank you very much for all the hard work you put in to make it so successful and professional, it was just what we needed – let’s just hope it bears fruit.
Judging by the responses from the guests, they all enjoyed everything on offer, but then how could they not – a lovely venue, fab weather, entertaining speakers (including yourself), great food, music and guided tours – all more than they expected. The intention was for them to leave with the wow factor, and they certainly did.
Many thanks once again, let’s get a date in the diary for next year!”
Sharon Flanagan
Sales & Marketing Manager, Ashton Court Mansion
“Just dropping you a quick line to thank you and your team (along with the team at Ashton Court) for an enjoyable evening yesterday.
